Ok, Doug. Cut the suspense. Why do you think this game was so unusual?

Well, if you ask Doug "How are goals typically scored in women's college soccer?" I would guess that many goals are scored from slop. Meaning a ball is bouncing in front of the goal for one reason or another and an offensive players is able to slap in a rebound goal. Have seen several of those lately. I have also seen several goals scored off of headers. Some off corner kicks but most simply off a high ball kicked into the box and then headed in.  I find it is somewhat unusual to see a goal scored off a shot from outside the box or near the outer edge of the box. Well, all three Memphis goals were scored on shots outside the box or at least at the edge of the box. None of the three goals were rebounds or headers. So, somewhat unusual. I am also guessing this was off of instructions from the Memphis coach at half-time to stop trying to work the ball inside the box and fire up if you get a chance.

So, we're in the second half and Memphis is beginning to fire off some shots instead of trying to work the ball in closer. Here are two shots from two different players. (The second one appears to be closer inside.)

Another shot taken.

Here is the first goal. This was taken near the corner kick area. A high blooper that just made its way in.

Here is the second goal two minutes later. Bombs away.

Here is the third goal. Another rip.
