Hmmmm. Doug has been disappointed with his shots of late. Camera is doing something that I don't want it to do. Here is a great example.

One of the huge problems with shooting in low light is depth of focus, i.e. only a small distance is in focus with the rest of the shot being out of focus. Notice the focus of the two outside dancers compared with the dancer in the middle. My computer, i.e., the black box I use with a lens attached to it, decided to focus on the two outside dancers rather than the one in the middle. Problem is, Doug wanted it to focus in the middle. Everything in life is a trade off. If I tell my camera to focus in the middle, I lose a little ability to grab moving objects. Again, everything is a trade off. (Fact of the matter is, if I am disappointed with shots I am getting, the biggest culprit is probably my inability to hold the camera steady.)

This time I did get the focus in the middle.

A couple weeks ago I took about 5-6 shots of a player running down the court, jumping up, and dunking the ball. I was horribly disappointed when I looked at the shots and every single one was out of focus. Again, the culprit was probably hand shake rather than settings on the camera.

Here is another example. The player with her hands up appears to be in focus. The UTD player is not bad (that is where I was aiming.). I just don't want the camera focusing on #30 or the players on the bench..

Notice how relatively sharp this one is. Explanation is probably a steadier hand. (The monopod helps but it does not fix everything.) Plus only two players in the main focus area.
